Core stability is part of the new gospel of athletic training. One way to achieve core stability is to handle unstable objects, so that stabilizing muscles are fully engaged. The University of South Carolina swim team does just this in one of their dry-land workouts by lifting slosh pipes, long cylanders partially filled with water.
Today we bring you the sprinters of the Auburn swim team. Whether it be their strength training, swimming warm-up, or this insane swim-til-you-puke (literally; I’m not exagerating) main set, there is something to be said about bringing a sense of play and creativity to one’s training. In case you think this kind of stuff doesn’t work, Cesar Cielo, one of the swimmers featured in these videos, went on to shock the world by winning the gold medal in the 50 meter freestyle at the Beijing Olympics.
